Skiing Holidays

Dear Maggie We are so lucky to have so many happy memories, to treasure, of times spent together on skiing holidays, curry nights, parties, and other boozy gatherings, and to count You, Rod & Emma as our friends. We will raise a glass to toast our very special friend. You will stay in our hearts and minds forever. Magic! Here are some skiing memories: Our skiing holiday adventures, with Maggie and the ski gang, began in 2003 at the Hotel Sport, Soldeu, Andorra and we have been loving our holidays together ever since. Maggie & Debbie would be checking the snow conditions months in advance & both checking umpteen times that they had the passports before, during, and after travel. Once there, whether it was: Tony guiding the merry band across the slopes come sun, snow blizzards, or fog; Rod, with infinite patience, coaxing the girls down the mountains; or Kev offering helpful words of encouragement “you’ve just got to get down”, despite some tears and tantrums, there were always plenty of smiles and laughter and alcohol to go round après ski. Later there was the threat of being nominated to wear the ‘Boo Boo’ badge to encourage bravery and good behaviour on the mountains. However, before its introduction, I can remember Maggie ‘loosing’ it, one day, when with winds blowing and lifts closing, she feared we were going in circles (which we were) and she doubted my ability to get her down to safety and a glass or two of wine. Typically, once safely in the bar, she was mortified that she may have upset me, as if I could ever take offence at such a lovely, caring lady. Always apologetic for wanting to stay and have a drink with the boys, she was welcomed as an ‘honorary bloke’. Memorable events, things, & places included (chronologically): The Sport Hotel; Billy Bob Teeth; the Yogi song; Baby Guinness, Baileys; Natalie’s hats and queuing for hot chocolate still in her skis; Kitzbuhel; the Hahnenkamm run; the Londoner; revolving doors; sunny Sauze d’Oulx; cardiac hill; Kev’s Sonic impressions; Emma, Grace & Gareth’s camouflaged fancy dress bar crawl and subsequent ‘lost’ keys; Tony’s fall under the chairlift (ha-ha); the Silver Bullet; Switzerland; the Lauberhorn run; Tony & Rod’s bender; Debbie the ‘bluebottle’; the girls cappuccino runs with Richard Barton; rock band ‘Manda’ in Saalbach; the girls ogling the Bass player; the boys night caps on the balcony; but mainly of course the skiing and the company. Here are some of the pictures reflecting our skiing holidays. Warning: the following contain many scenes involving the use of alcohol!
